What is the worst thing you can put or do to your site that will turn people away?

Some of the things that turn me off are:

Blank boring pages

Overstimulating pages (Dark fonts with dark backgrounds)

Small irregular fonts

Well, shock factor is a turn off for me. I mean when you go into a site and the designer has made it look like the pits of hell. I don't even want to check further to see if there is anything of interest in the site at all.

Are these done purposely for shock factor or are they only targeting certain people like Heavy Metal followers or the Dark Side of Life.

Do these people honestly feel that they are going to earn money from these sites of it is just a matter of too much ego thinking that they can do it "their way" so why not!!!

I often wonder about that when I see them.

I also do not enjoy blank boring sites either because if I'm bored with what I see what makes me think that delving deeper into the site is going to spark my interest.

The number 1 turnoff for me is poor navigation. It's particularly bad when it's an ecommerce site and you can't figure out how to add items to your cart or to log out.

If a site is easily navigable then you'll want to come back and to recommend it to others.
