What is the apparently obsession with small fonts. It seems as screen size (physical) and resolution has grown, font size has dropped.

The standard font size for many websites it at least a notch smaller than the browers default.

In a few cases (fine print) and formatting menus to fit, small fonts make sense. For general text it just make a site difficult, if not impossible to read.

It seem to offer no benefit to the web designer, hosting company or users.

You are not kidding. I cannot stand some of these services that use 4 point. Who can read that?

Comment #2 Nancy from Los Angeles (Contact Member) -

I agree. I need a 25" monitor and a magnifying class. It's like you pay extra for screen space.

I am at the point where when I deliver articles I am using 14 point text spaced one and a half just for eye ease.

and no complaints back on that yet so i know others are having the same problem.

In my opinion, anything smaller than 10 point is just too small to read. I, personally, like 12 point.

I'll take the 10 or 12 point but if the site is any smaller than that, I just pass it buy and don't even try to read it because I know somewhere I will find something similar that is a lot easier on the eyes.

I can read fine print but it's just not worth the headache that goes with it.

I hope some of these sites are dropping by here and reading what we have to say about it so that maybe they will think of changing it.

I know the reason is to fit as much on a page as possible but all it does is make it look crowded and unreadable.

I usually use the bar at the top and view the text size and make it larger. I can usually get it large enough to read if it's something I really want to read. If that doesn't work, I just move on.
