Text ads are great because 1): They are proven to convert BETTER than banner ads, and, more importantly 2): Are great for SEO.

If you can hyperlink that ad so much the better. I am doing a lot of SEO article work and seeding links is the best kind of result promotion. Just better linking to other parts of the site is better. You are right people just look at banners and buttons.

Plus too many of the banners are obnoxious and distract from the content of your site.

I never thought about that, that is very true. Banners are never relevent, but text links almost always are. I guess that's the reason they convert so much better.

I always wondered about text links because I wasn't sure anybody took notice, but I tried them out recently and had pretty good success. I have also had success in the past with banners, but as you said they need to be targeted. For example, if I had a web hosting company I would certainly consider advertising it on a site like this because it's specific to the target audience. It's also important to pay close attention to the fundamentals of HCI and make sure it's not too flashy or annoying.

Personally, I don't care for either of them. Text links I don't usually notice too much. Banner ads I stay away from. Pop up city happens when I click anything it seems like these days.

I can see how text ads could work but I rarely pay attention to them. I guess I am more of banner person. If the banner looks cool then I might check out. I had to upgrade my pop up blocker because it wasn't working like it should. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
