Is anyone making money from this crap email?

If the answer is no, why does it get coming?

If the answer is yes.. well, oh boy, maybe the end of the world is coming from our own stupidity.

I get tons of spam on a daily basis in my gmail account. Some of it does go directly into the spam folder, but just as much goes into my email. I'm really sick of it, but it seems like when one person gets your email address, you're on a hundred lists by the end of the week. I just use the delete button and try not to let it get to me.

This is a report of the 25 web pages we have blocked emails from. Ie: if we receive an email that contains one of these domains it is blocked. The CNT is how many emails we've received with that domain in it.

Obviously if we deleted these by hand our delete button would be worn out.

Does anyone really think that are 4drugs123.com has any better chance of selling something with 75, 000 emails vs 1? All told we have 24, 008 domains blocked so far.

That is after we added a block to our firewall to stop any connections on our email server from most non-US ip addresses. We get about 50, 000 emails a day (over 250 megabytes worth). Out of that about 200 would be ones we don't classify as spam.

Very strange because I use Yahoo mail as an alternative for registering in sites where I don't want spam interfering with my regular mail.

Everyday I go into yahoo and find approx. 870 spams have been put in there. None of the spam seems to filter into the regular mail on yahoo and all it takes is one click on the "empty" button to get rid of the junk.

The other nice thing about it is that it doesn't count towards volume of your regular mail which I like.

Now sympatico has a very good spam filter but for some reason cannot filter out an e-mail with no subject in the subject line and some very strange stuff seems to be getting through. So I'm really not as pleased with sympatico as I am with Yahoo for filtering spam.

The spammers seem to be getting a little smarter in how they get through. Instead of having the usual "subject line" that will get them into the spam box they are putting in just plain garbage subject lines. For example I had ten in about 1 hour come to my regular mail which never used to get any spam and they had subject lines like "make hay while the sun shines" and "Mount Washington". One even had the senders name as "Make Some Noise" and another had no name no subject line.

Unfortunately the spam blockers don't recognize this kind of thing as spam and hence it seems to be getting worse. I think it is probably about the same as it has always been but more is seeping through by using bogus names and bogus subjects.

Rowena how long have you had the account? I use one account for signing up new domain names and the spam leapfrogs like Tribbles after a while. I had to leave my Hotmail account behind a few years ago, the spam made it impossible. I think I lost contact with people over that.

The trouble is trying to find all the stuff you hooked up to that account.

I have lots of email accounts. I try to keep one just for legitimate email from friends and family. I never give it out anywhere. Yet the spam somehow finds its way to me. The filters don't seem to work, and I end up spending hours sorting and deleting.

Nancy, millions of people a year purchase something from a pop up ad or spam email. If people just stopped doing it, it would go away, but when new Internet users come on, they don't know about this stuff, and they buy. That's why spam will never go away.

I have long since given up on the idea of spam disappearing forever. Between my hotmail and yahoo account I think I have blocked well over 100 addresses and they keep coming. I don't even bother checking them I just spot check my junk mail for anything important and then delete it all.

Comment #10 Holly from Middle of Nowhere USA (Contact Member) -

I don't even bother blocking addresses, especially on my yahoo account because it doesn't work. I just have to check my email more often so I don't have to go through 1000 emails at a time. I have been checking mine at least 3-4 times per day recently beacause I am getting so much spam.
