Just an experiment we setup a social bookmarking club. You bookmark me and I'll bookmark you is the idea.We use the del.icio.us api to make sure bookmarks are made. It's pretty easy to use, but the user interface is still early alpha and a bit rough. After you sign up, you can start bookmarking sites to earn points. You are presented a website and you can either skip it or bookmark it. There is also a link which opens in a new window to view the site. Every site you bookmark earns you a point. Every site you skip is out of your hair forever. For every point you earn by bookmarking a site, your site is available for bookmarking. That is as long as your point balance is positive your site will be presented to members for bookmarking. Everytime your site is bookmarked one point is deducted from your balance. You can add more than one site, however, the more sites you add the less each may be bookmarked. If you earn 10 points and submit 10 sites you might get 1 bookmark per site, or one site bookmarked 10 times (or anything inbetween). Give it is a try. Report back any ideas, suggestions or comments.

Could you explain the benefits of having points?

Here is the idea again:YOU bookmark 10 sites. 10 OTHERS bookmark your site. The points are to keep track of how many sites you've bookmarked and how many times your site has been bookmarked.

This is intriguing especially in light of one of the other great threads on this site that spoke about how it can be useful to have your site tagged in delicious. My only concern is how the actual tagging element of it works because if you are not tagging my site appropriately then it's not going to be of any value to me.For example, if I have a retail store and you tag it as 'pop' and 'weather' it will not help me out at all if somebody is doing a search on delicious. Does that make sense? How does the tagging aspect work?

Actually, since we use the delicio.us API... it will be tagged exactly how you specify the tags when you load up your information. It would be a good idea to make a special account just for this to try it out. We are curious since the del.icio.us stuff all seemed to be nofollow'ed what the actual result will be.

Any update on how this is working out? I'm really curious as I have colleagues that would be interested in signing up and being a part of the program. Have you marketed it yet or are you still testing it out?

What I would like to know is how can we be sure that these are safe and secure sites where we won't end up with viruses or porno sites bookmarking our sites.I also understand that some of the porno sites that you end up browsing sometimes have virus cookies that can be implanted without your know it. How can you ensure that this type of thing will not happen?
