I am new to this as far as using SEO. I am not very familiar with them. What are they supposed to be used for? Do they help at all?

SEO is absolutely critical to making money from a website. If you want your site to be visible then you must either employ good SEO tactics yourself or hire somebody to do it for you. SEO is the act of optimizing your pages/site for search engines.

SEO is the buzz word today (has been for a while already). No one can think of setting up a website without spending serious time (if not money) on the subject before even starting design on the site and it's content.
