What are the best type of banners to use on a website. Should they be stagnant or should they have some movement to them. Which ones do you feel are the easiest to set up and which ones are the most attractive to customers. Have any of you really noticed a difference in which ones get the most hits?

If you want to chase your users away and make sure they ignore the content on your page, make them very active and obnoxious. They should be appealing, non-animated and blend in with the site. Have you ever tried to read something with a blinky widget next to it? What about on all sides all blinking at different rates.

Man do I hear you on that one. There is nothing worse than going to a site that just seems to keep flashing at you.Stay away from the obnoxious ones and just use a straight banner that has the information required to attract a hit on it. Otherwise as was said you will definitely scare people away from your site rather than them hitting and liking what they see and recommending it to others.

I normally respond to ones that are interesting. If it is saying something decent I might pay attention but most of the time I prefer a non animated banner.

What about load time. Surely static banners are so much faster loading? The more fancy graphics you have on a page, the slower your loading time, and even with really fast broadband proliferating everywhere today it still makes a big difference on a busy site. Good design means keeping the page as lean as possible within reason.

Definitely. I actually prefer sites with more subtle graphics. To me that is an indication of sophistication and certainly not the other way around. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
