Selling your freelance service

Delaney from Home -

What's a good way to sell your freelance service? Not that I personally have any talent, but I know a few people who are absolutely amazing graphic artists. How would they let it be known that they'd do this service for pay? Are there sites specializing in freelance services?

SitePoint.com and DigitalPoint.com. SitePoint is better but costs money to list, and DigitalPoint is, well, free.

I have a friend that ran a small business fixing computers and he did great by just word of mouth. Since he was just one guy fixing computers he stayed very busy with just a few computers per week. He worked on computers in addition to his 40 hr per week job. It all depends on if you are doing it for a full income or just supplementing income.

A very good question. I have several talents that I could freelance out but I would have no informaton either on how it should be done.

I worked in Sales Management/Sales Training/ Motivation for about 20 years and have a great knowledge on what motivates people to do what you need them to do because they "want to" not because they have to. I was tested in sales, sales techniques and management and the test showed that I was in the top 5% of the people with this kind of knowledge.

I'm just not sure how I would go about exploiting my talents. I also have a penchant for writing, probably you can tell that by the length of my posts here and I feel that I have enough knowledge in sales and writing and motivating that I could be a benefit to any company that is looking for unique ideas.

But where to start that is the question of the day.

The sites that have been listed are great sites to start with. If they are just starting out don't expect it to boom over night. Start off small and if they can't find something online then try in their local area.

Do you know of anyone who has used DigitalPoint.com and SitePoint.com? How long did it take them to find clients through these sites. Did they have to keep coming back and re-posting their information to keep it at the top of the list or can they just post it once and expect answers coming through almost immediately.

I am aware that it really depends on what talents they are trying to sell but it they were "in demand" talents and it took 3 months to get a response I don't feel that it would be worth it.

Finding clients is always the tricky part. Freelance work can be a competitive field. I definitely wouldn't tell anyone to quick a day job unless they find something dependable. It depends on talent and sometimes on what they bid for a job.

You definitely want to sell yourself. Like delta said it is competitive. There are a ton of people out there looking for work at home jobs. Try checking out telecommuting and freelance forums for tips.
