Anybody familiar with the .mobi domains? I am interested to know whether they are taking off after the early flurry of sales of this new domain name, specifically geared at the mobile phone market.

Interesting discussion. I'm curious to hear what others think as well. I think that there is tremendous upside and so I bought a few interesting ones myself, but I think it's all speculative at this point. I've seen some selling for mid 5 digits, but they were very good ones.

This is news to me. Are they actually in use yet? I've not seen or heard anything from the phone companies about the concept, and one would imagine it would be in their interests to promote it vigorously.

I have seen so much of this after looking into buying my own domains. I'd never heard of it before my search and wonder how it originated?

I believe it was originally allocated to Ireland for whatever reason and then a bunch of the big boys including M$, Nokia, Google, etc. got together and decided to invest in this initiative. I think it's going to take off sooner or later. I don't believe it's a repeat of the WAP scenario.
