Four years ago when my husband and I started our videogame site, we lucked out and the first name we chose was available. But it seems like now, any name you try is already taken. If you're looking to start a new site, do you keep checking til you find a .com that works, or will you settle for a .net? It just seems to get harder and harder to find a good name, especially if it's in a popular subject.

Wow you are lucky, what is your domain name? It took me awhile to find a domain name for myself, I should have tried to buy the one I wanted, since it wasn't being used.

You can check expiring names daily at snapnames and pool not to mention enom. They show all the names people are abandoning. If you are patient you can get the one you want cheap. Or you could buy it.
