CSS - CSS New attitude towards CSS Tags: css, no_tables |

I have started adopting a no-tables and pure CSS approach to development. It's a little rough without using tables at all but it is so much better this way. Cleaner code and a more efficient design. I like it a lot.

I am seeing more and more web pages that load and then jump into their intended format. That is aweful. Sure some non css move around a bit as photos load that don't have proper height/width tags. But the essence of the page is correct as it loads.

I'm confused now. Is this jump around due to the CSS approach or the table approach? Fred, do you agree with delino or are you saying you disagree with this approach?

I am not sure about the jump, but I agree that it's a good idea to use as much CSS as possible and limit your usage of tables. I don't agree with completely eliminating them though. I think there is no reason to take it that far.
Comment #4 Boyne from Crooked Usage -
I've noticed that FireFox and IE sometimes return quite different results based on the CSS used in my tables. While this is a nuisance and often involves some tweaking, I wonder whether compatibility issues across browsers may not be a reason to be careful when using only CSS? With tables there are these small issues, but one can work around them.
