Is MySpace considered a blog? If not, how would you categorize a MySpace page?
Comment #1 Courtney from Texas -
I think you could consider my space a blog. I, personally, do not like my space. I have never been a fan of it. I also do not like the way it is effecting teens. I had a friend that invited me to join myspace and I did, but I never used it.

I have a myspace page, but I honestly don't keep up with it. I haven't even checked it in months. I joined it because a site I go to has a myspace page so I thought I'd get one too.

Well I have been coersed into joining my space pages because of the fact that I have received an invitation to join a "friends" my space page and in the process have had to create my own "my space page"Personally I'm not a fan of this as may people seem to think they can take advantage of the fact that it is not monitored and in a couple I started getting people joining just to add smut pictures and smut threads. So I do not ever work on my space pages so I can avoid all that. Now when I get an invite I will check it out and if it requires me to start up a my space page I just log out and carrying with what I was doing at the time.

MySpace was okay in the beginning, but now people just use it to advertise. And some of the advertisement is nasty. I hate opening a friend invite to read something nasty. I really think somebody should monitor the site cause its out of control.

Sapphire too sadly this is true. And people are doing it on Youtube now. I wish you could just de-spam all this. Whenever I get a Myspace "friend" invite i just delete autmatically. I know it's some girl in a lingerie robe prancing around.

Has it really gotten that bad? Like I said, I haven't been there in months. I tried to login this morning, but I couldn't even remember my login information. Oh well, no big loss I'm sure.

My Space started out as a great idea for friends to all congregate in one place and talk about things important to them but then it has seemed to turn into a porno place where all you see are pictures of half-naked women. That is not a site I would want any business of mine involved in because the saying does hold true that you are who you associate with. So for me that's not the best way to go.

No way is MySpace a blog. It's categorized as a social networking site. If MySpace expanded to include blogging, it would take a lot of business from Xanga and other sites, maybe even WordPress and Blogger, although I'm sure established people wouldn't switch over; too costly.

Isn't there a blog section on myspace though? I could've sworn I saw something like that on there. But I think you have to have a member's permission to read theirs. Or am I thinking of another site all together? LOL, sometimes I think I surf too much, they all start to look the same.

Yes you can have a blog at myspace. I think it shows up on the user's profile page. I hardly ever use it because I get spammed with friend requests and mostly junk.
Comment #11 Shannon from The Office -
If you're interested in getting any type of revenue from your blog, then MySpace is not the way to go. I have seen opportunities on PayPerPost which specifically exclude people who have MySpace blogs. Get yourself a blog with blogger or wordpress or even better - get your own domain.

MySpace appeals to the very young crowd, but it turns off many of the more mature readers out there. It doesn't look very professional to have a myspace blog regarding an important topic. They are more suited for teens, bands and artists in my opinion.
