I was checking out a blog and noticed that they were a member of some kind of web ring. I am sort of new to all of this. Can someone tell me what a web ring is used for? Is it like a blog roll or something?

Actually I think it is very similiar to that. It is like a group of web pages linked together. I guess it could help with getting traffic to your blog.

I suppose it is just different blogs that are tied together. Are there just links to other blogs or are they all together on the same site?

As far as I know it is just a network of blogs that are all put together. I have never heard the term blog roll. I have heard of a blog ring though. And, that is just a network of blogs.

I didn't think webrings even existed anymore. A long time ago I had a site and I joined a webring to help promote it. It was just a big group of similar sites. But I haven't seen a webring on a site in long time.

I too have heard the term before but have never really delved into it completely. I wasn't aware that they were still around but I guess you could call things like Yahoo360, MyBlogs and places like that which promote many blogs starting from one users blog a webring now-a-days.

Personally, they don't interest me because they all seem to be talking about a lot of different things that are really pointed to nowhere in particular. At least from my point of view anyway.
