Online parties

I am working as a rep for company and already have my webpage set up. I wanted to start selling online and have thought about doing online parties. Does anyone know how to get started or even how to join one?

You have to co-opt a community or build one. What is the topic of your site? I want a party! Everybody wants to be invited. But you have to show something to their advantage, people will not just show up. Do you mean to hold the party in chat? With skype video? A webcam?

Would this be something like a Tuperware Party where you show your products and demo them and have someone sign up as a hostess who would get credits for bringing people to your site to purchase the items you are demonstrating?

OR

Would this just be like a shout-out party where everyone who wants to join the shoutbox can?

Now there is a marketing plan. I think that you hit on something that could be utilized. Offer a bonus of points for anyone bringing people to your site to shop and when they make a purchase the referral has a number given to them and that is put in the purchase order and they get bonus points which they can use for discounts on items on your site.

Subsequently, the shopper also becomes a hostess and can bring people to the site to get discount points as well.

This could become like a Tupperware online party.

I've never heard of an online party. What a cool idea. Have online parties been in existance very long?

Do online parties really work, because personally I want to see what I am getting right in front of me. I want to touch the item and get to look it over. That would be like homeshopping network via internet. Neat idea, but does it sell?

Just be careful about the spammers and predators out there. They absolutely love this sort of thing and are always looking to crash the party and take advantage of the community you've built. You have to be proactive and fight them off or it will destroy any ideas you have.

I am a member of a yahoo group that occassionally holds online parties. It gives each "vender" 15 minutes to talk about their product and then give freebies through a contest or something.

I am selling kids toys and jewelry right now. I sat in on the last party and actually it was a lot of fun. I sold a few items but it wasn't too bad for the first time.

This online party idea seems interesting, but I don't think I have the software or programming abilities to create something like this. Then again, I don't have any products to sell, so it's not really that useful for me anyway.

I have a friend that is hosting a Mary Kay party this weekend. I will have to let her know about the online parties. How do you advertise to get people to come because obviously it is people from outside the city you live in?

Comment #10 Courtney from Texas (Contact Member) -

I would suppose you could check out some forums and do invites that way. That is a good question. How do you get the word out about your online party to people outside of your city.

Comment #11 angie1000 from Georgia (Contact Member) -

The way it was advertised was through a message board and several yahoo groups. There was a decent amount of people there in the "chat".
