I was reading a book recently on techniques for using google ads in websites. But when I actually had a look at the author's own website, I saw that the system he was using was pretty different from what he had outlined in his book! I suppose that books become rapidly outdated, and it makes me wonder whether it is worth buying them on subjects like this that seem to be continuously evolving.

I suppose that the trick is to get the google ad links looking as similar to the other links on the page as possible. You would do this by modifying the style of the local links on your page to look similar in color and font size to the google ones. It is also important to place the google ads in areas where the reader's gaze is likely to fall. One wants to try and have the google ads looking like useful resources links rather than plain ads as many people are simply averse to clicking on ads.

I think even the most effective techniques need to be refreshed from time to time. I also find that using the same technique on all pages is not a good idea. I like to mix it up and to not let my visitors get used to any specific pattern.

Some of these people that claim to be experts on the subject and have made millions are just scammers so beware of them. If he has changed his pages it may mean that he is trying to find the right technique himself.

It is true that many books written on how to make a million bucks are probably not authored by people who've made it through their businesses! However, the fact that techniques change is only natural as everything evolves, and I am sure that many of the books out there are really useful.

Comment #5 Raglan from Joe'is (Contact Member) -

I believe that the techniques used so successfully by many sites should be followed as it is a two way street as far as google are concerned. Anyone selling a service, and this is google business at the end of the day, requires happy customers. So what works for one works for the other too.

Comment #6 delino from California (Contact Member) -

Sure. There are plenty of issues with click fraud and such but in general Google adsense is a great way to make money and the techniques used by some people have resulted in excellent returns.

Yes, I agree that Google has provided us all with a tremendous medium for earning nicely on our websites. Despite all the anti-hype one sometimes hears, this is still the way to go.
